The lawyer who represents Hinton Jr. said he faces a “very serious and very terrible position,” but said he has no serious crimes in his history.

“I understand that this is an emotionally charged situation,” said the lawyer, mentioning the death of Hinton Jr.’s son added: “I understand that there is much sadness and a lot of anger in this room at this time and in the community in general.”

The judge ordered Hinton Jr. retained without bail in Clermont County prison until his next hearing on May 6.

In a statement on Saturday, lawyers representing the Hinton family said they were hired to investigate the death of Ryan Hinton and that Rodney Hinton, along with other family members, met with the Cincinnati police on Friday to see images of the body chamber of his death.

The deputy was beaten on Friday while running traffic near the University of Cincinnati, according to the authorities.

“Ryan Hinton’s family, including Ryan’s father, was present at the meeting and were understandably distressed while watching the video bodycam,” the statement said. “After the meeting with the police department, Ryan Hinton’s father left in his own vehicle and that was the last thing we heard from him until we learned about the tragic incident that involved an agent of the law that worked a traffic detail near the University of Cincinnati.”

The lawyers are Michael Wright, Shean Williams and Robert Gresham of the firm Cochran, as well as Anthony Pierson by Pierson and Pierson, LLC, according to WCPO.

The statement continued to say: “This is an unimaginable tragedy for this community. Ryan Hinton’s family is disconsolate by this tragic turn of events and we are all devastated by the family of the officer who was killed.”

The deputy has not yet been publicly identified under an Ohio Law that protects the privacy of victims and their families. However, the police said the deputy had recently retired and was serving in a special capacity with the department.
